Dr. John R. Lott Jr.

Bestselling Author and Researcher

On Tuesday, April 15, Dr. John R. Lott Jr. spoke on the campus of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. Students, faculty and members of the community attended the event. Some attendees came from as far away as Houston to hear Dr. Lott speak.

The Heritage of Freedom Speaker Series is offered as a service to the community by Students for the Second Amendment. All events are free and open to the public.


Doctor Lott spoke on his research in his latest book The Bias Against Guns, and his earlier book, More Guns, Less Crime. Dr. Lott's talk focused on how the media approaches gun issues, and other facts regarding gun ownership and relevant statistics.

Copies of Dr. Lott's books; More Guns, Less Crime and The Bias Against Guns, were available for purchase before and after his speech.

Jennifer Magdziak of Borders Bookstore and her assistant came out to make Dr. Lott's latest book, The Bias Against Guns, available to attendees.

****** BIO for Dr. John R. Lott Jr. *******

John R. Lott Jr., is a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. Before joining AEI, Mr. Lott was a senior research scholar at Yale University’s School of Law. He has also held positions at the University of Chicago, Stanford University, UCLA, the Wharton Business School, and Rice University.

Additionally he was the Chief Economist at the United States Sentencing Commission in 1988 and 1989.

Mr. Lott has published more than ninety articles in academic journals including the Journal of Law and Economics and the Journal of Legal Studies, and is a frequent contributor to major newspapers.

He is the bestselling author of More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws. His current book, The Bias Against Guns: Why Almost Everything You’ve Heard About Gun Control Is Wrong, was just released by Regnery Publishing in March 2003.
